Frequently Asked Questions
Yes I offer private 1-1 Tutoring for $60/hour. Most private tutoring will happen on Fridays.
Your child is welcome to be a part of our classroom for any number of days. It is a good idea to be consistent with their schedule.
Payments are due at the beginning of the week or month prior to classes taking place.
Each classroom session is a full 60 minutes of teacher led instruction.
At this time I am the only teacher in the classroom. In the future there may be individual classes such as Art or Music taught by someone else. These will be separate from regular academic instruction.
24 hour notice is encouraged.
This depends on a number of factors. First, how much teaching do you want to be responsible for yourself and what are the goals you have for working with me? Some families are looking for simple additional support to what they are doing through homeschooling. Some families have their child signed up for three comprehensive classes which include, reading, writing, and math. Set up an initial meeting with me so we can discuss your child’s specific needs.
If a child is taking the 3 classes a day they will be getting lessons in each area of academics, including, reading, writing, math, and a weekly science class that is separate from the other classes. Your child will have high quality, extremely small classroom size, and more direct attention due to the small number of students in each class (3-5 max). They will also receive homework assignments and work to complete independently to practice learned skills. I have had success having students reach beyond grade level in each academic area with family support in the home.
Students that are enrolled in regular weekly classes will receive access to rigorous and engaging learning platforms. Monthly assessments and teacher feedback will be given. Access to parent “how to” videos that walk through the use of each platform will be available. Quality work samples provided for your child’s portfolio for the school district’s student paperwork. Several parent teacher conferences throughout the year. Support for families in finding resources to help your child’s learning path.
Classes will normally be between the hours of 10am-5 pm EST. Each class is 60 minutes. The schedule is set up so that students taking multiple classes will have breaks in between.
Schedule a meeting with me so that we can discuss what works both academically but also financially for you.
I am open to discussions about a family discount. This requires prior conversation with me to discuss options.
Each year there are some scholarships available to families in need. An application and interview will be necessary. It is part of the Kindness Ripples philosophy.
You do not have to leave the house. You can be anywhere as long as you have WiFi access. You have everything for your child’s learning at your fingertips. Children with attention issues many times are more successful in the remote environment due to much less distractions occurring from large classrooms with many students and only one teacher. Less time needed in the classroom with direct small group instruction.
I run very closely to the regular public school schedule. Many of the full week vacations may be extended and include 2 weeks. Classes start September 6th and run through the beginning of June.
Of course you can add or subtract classes based on the needs of your child. Changes that need to be made should be discussed a month in advance.
We will be using Google Classroom. Assignments will be stored there as well as family communication. We will use Google Classroom Live for our remote classroom.
All classes are live with me in Google Classroom. I do have video and reading material that support all lessons.
Yes you will need a reliable internet service to take remote classes.
Yes. I am currently licensed in the State of Massachusetts which has one of the most rigorous teacher licensing processes in the country and 46 out of the 50 U.S. states have reciprocity with the Massachusetts license. I hold a Masters in education as well as an initial license and Masters in reading instruction.
I have been teaching for 20 years in all. I started teaching music and clarinet. I then began teaching bio science labs in college at American International. I moved on to teach 4th and 5th grade math recovery. After earning my masters degree I spent 10 years in my own classroom in Ludlow Mass. teaching 1st grade. I have been teaching remotely for almost 3 years now.
I am an experienced teacher with a lot of success working with students who have a hard time learning in a regular classroom. I take the time to understand each student’s learning style and try to align my lessons and teaching to match the interests and passions of each student. I believe that keeping students engaged, excited, and having fun is important to keeping their interest and investment level high. I am a teacher, not a large company or organization. Classrooms are small so your child will get more direct instruction.
